Bombing at Imani Lutheran Hostel in Mwanza leaves one injured

Bishop Andrew Gulle of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) East of Lake Victoria Diocese confirmed that on Monday night 5 May 2014 an attendant of Imani Lutheran Centre in Mwanza, Ms Bernadeta Alfred (25), was seriously wounded by an explosive device that went off at the Hostel.

Ms Alfred had noticed a package wrapped in gift paper that was placed by unknown person on top of empty crates of soft drinks for three days and at 8.30 pm on Monday she decided to move it to a secure place when it exploded injuring her face and legs.

She has been admitted at Bugando referral hospital in Mwanza for treatment.

Police in Mwanza said the explosion at the church premises along Makongoro Misheni Road was a home-made bomb dubbed Improvise Explosive Device and that further investigations continue.
