MTONI DIACONICAL CENTRE - MTONI SPECIAL SCHOOL LOVE - PATIENCE - OPPORTUNITY: THE PILLARS OF ACHIEVEMENT |
This centre was established in 1983 for children with learning disabilities (mentally handicapped) to provide education, vocational training and daily care. In 1964 a centre was started for street children, it was founded by Luis Danielson and run by the Social Service Department of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. In response to the Year of the Disabled in 1981 it was decided to change the focus at the centre to children with intellectual impairment and learning Disabilities and in 1983 the first children arrived.
The centre now has 47 students, a mixture of boys and girls from a variety of backgrounds and religions who come from all over Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. The Centre has a day and boarding programme. The centre is run jointly by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania: Eastern and Coastal Diocese, which provides premises, food and non - teaching staff, and the City Council which provides teaching and nursing staff as well as other materials and support. |
