"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you." (John 14:27)

These are words Jesus told his disciples before leaving them to finish his way on earth. He wanted to comfort them that in him they will always find peace as a bond between God and humans and between humans themselves. These words are written on the altar of our church. It is our wish that whoever worships with us may experience this peace in his or her life: welcome or as we say in Tanzania: karibuni kwetu!

Azania Front Lutheran Church is the cathedral of the Eastern and Coastal Diocese which is a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. Our church has a long history which dates back to the early years of the 20th century and is closely connected with the history of the mission work in Tanzania. The bishop resides here and the assistant to the bishop is the dean of the cathedral. The everyday work is done by the chaplain who is assisted by other staff members and the church council.

The regular activities of our congregation take place in groups like the main choir, the "Choir of Love", the youth group and its choir, the women's group and its choir, the fellowship group and its choir. On Sundays the members worship in three services while their children meet in the Sunday school.

Some years ago, our congregation has built an office building. Its foundation was laid on 19.5.1991 and the inauguration was held 24.5.1992, ninety years after the cathedral was inaugurated. The building houses offices for the congregation, two conference rooms and one floor is rented out to a computer company.
