What happened on Monday, September 26th at quarter past four in the afternoon?

A forest fire swept through the woods up Mlalo destroying the power line running up from Mlalo Mission to the transmitter site.

Thousands of people in the Usambara- and Tanga region missed programmes of the Lutheran RadioCentre.

After talking with the regional TANESCO engineer, the director of the Lutheran Radio Centre, Calvin Lyaro got the answer that, the proplem lays on the cable running up the mountain.

Bw. Alphonce Mlai was sent to Mlalo to investigate the damage. Within a week ,he replaced all the burnt and rotten cable poles and the burnt cable to return the transmitter on air again.

Such fire damage takes place nearly every year!

If the Lutheran Radio Centre would have 1500 US$ available, the cable running up would be replaces by a burried ground cable more imune to the forest fire taking place when unwise people burn the forest!
