The stolen transmitter form Arusha is back on Kivesi !

On July 10th 2003 we set off to return the stolen Transmitter to the Kivesi hill above Arusha. Unfortunately the weather changed again to rain, as usual in the rainy season.

In the morning we bought a new battery for the telemety system, and a small stabilizer to equalize the power fluctuations. Close to noon the rain did not stop yet. What should we do?

We thought it is better to try to bring up the transmitter since we went so far already with it!

So we went up to the small village on the Kivesi hill, shared the good news with the local congregation, and went to Luca, who cares and watches the transmitter. He told us, they really slipped awful, when they returned from the night watch up there. Now how should it possible to bring up the heavy transmitter, the stabilizer, the telemetry unit and the heavy battery?

When we went up, we came directly into the clouds, beeing lowern than 2000 metres! A small drizzling rain changed the way up into a sliding path. So we tried to get grip below our feet on the grass next to the way up. Determent to get up we set one step afther another, and God gave us the the power to get up inspite of all the rain!

After installing everything we noticed that the antenna system has a big problem. Already a long time we noticed, that the transmitter reduces the power very much especially in the early morning times. But we had no clue, what could be the cause! We already exchanged the antenna. Then we removed the replacement tansmitter, and put a borrowed transmitter from Habari Maalum in Arusha, which had been on air unto that moment. This transmitter had no telemetry facility. But the complains by the listeners continued on certain days. We are sure now, there is water coming into the antenna cable, causing problems, whenever it is raining! And that is why god gave us that trouble to get up here, to find that out!

We will observe this problem for some days on the telemetry and change the antenna cable as soon as possible!

Returning down, the wife of Luca had prepared hot sweet tea for us, which we surely needed, after freezing all the day!
