The Solar Container "Solar Tainer" was a gift from RWE for the Lutheran Hospital in Karatu via "Bread For The World".

Right now it supplies the entire hospital complex with electricity.

As soon as the new extention is ready, its capacity will be sufficient for the theatre tract and all positions where continous supply of electricity is absolutely essential.

Design:

40pcs.  24-Volt  100 Watts "Frameless" PV modules are connected in 4 parallel banks to provide 120V.                                   ( peak power 4 kW)

A DC-DC converter/charging regulator provides optimal charging current for the battery even under cloudy conditions.

The battery consists of 60 cells (250 Ah) in series   and can hold a charge of 15 kWh

A high efficient DC/AC sine wave- converter provides 230V (5kVA max) for the hospital 24 hours a day.

During rainy days the converter can be used in the reverse way to charge the battery as long as the generator is running,
